Jacob Warner Brauer (donor) was named for this southern Captain because he was born while Captain Warner and 22 of his wounded Confederate soldiers were staying at the Brauer home. The Brauers were Federalists but the wounded soldiers were carried into the home under the mistaken impression that that the occupants were Confederate sympathizers. Jacob Brauer's mother cared for them until their recovery. The home was later known as Liberty Hall and was used as a school. |
