Rifle, Henry, early brass frame model, lever action, metallic cartridge, rim fire, repeating, serial # 1540. Caliber is .44 rim fire. 1860 model. Barrel is 24" long and octagon. Designed by B. Tyler Henry. This rifle was developed from the Volcanic. Both the rifle and the metallic cartridge were new at the time it was introduced. Manufactured by Winchester 1860-1866. |

Stolen 5/18/1967. Recovered 2/17/68. Cleaned 12/11/1972. First donation to the museum. New Haven Arms Co. (Winchester) 1863. Made for military use in the Civil War. Used by Col. James H.B. McFerran during the Civil War and carried by R.R. Taylor in the Indian Wars. |
