Description |
Ruffler, Lower Shank Attachment for Singer Model 201 Sewing Machine. This attachment is used to create ruffles of various sizes. The attachment head is on the front and is J-shaped. The body of the attachment has a large top with a round screw mechanism that can be loosened to adjust the measurement on the top of the head which is indicated by a metal pin that fits into the slot of 1, 6, or 12. This particular attachment is set to 12. The bottom of the attachment is a serious of metal pieces, the bottom most of which is zig-zagged shaped. Underneath the number settings is a flat metal piece that connects to the bottom and is held in place by a rounded T-shaped cut piece and a lowercase "e" looking metal piece. The metal has a blue colored overlay piece. Underneath the "e" is a thick, square metal piece held in place by a small screw with a linear indention (for flathead screw driver). |

Donated by: Eugene and Leah Barry's Children-Bettie, Lana, Pauline, Eugene Jr. Roger, Elese, and Steven. Donation date: 12/9/2017 Eugene and Leah Barry were married in November, 1940. Mr. Barry was called to serve in World War II in 1941. He purchased this Singer Sewing Machine for his wife Leah and she sewed dresses after their three young daughters were born. During WWII, flour was purchased in printed cloth sacks. Those sacks were often used to construct clothing. Leah made pinafore dresses for her daughters to attend church. After WWII, Mr. Barry established a very successful business in Colorado Springs, Barry Motor Sales. Tragically he was killed in an auto accident in Kumus, Texas in 1952. Leah remarried and relocated to Arizona. She passed away in 2012. |
