Carbine, Single Shot, Metallic Cartridge, Sliding Barrel. Sharps & Hawkins Model 1862, Navy Type Carbine. Serial number 10551. Caliber is .52 Rimfire. Barrel is round and 24 inches long. Navy type has a leather covering surrounding the barrel to prevent rust. |

Donor: Waldron, A.J Received as: Donation Received Date: 1/1/1908 Credit Line: A.J. Waldron Manufactured by Sharps & Hawkins of Philadelphia. These were made for use by the U.S. Navy during the U.S. Civil War. This one is thought to have been owned by Kit Carson and given by him to his friend, Elliott, who gave it to J.P. Waldron.(see yellow card for more info) |
